Built for runners

From your first 5k to a marathon, your programme is built around what research shows about how runners get injured and what helps them perform.

Built into every runner's programme

  • Injury prevention built in
  • Race preparation, with nutrition guidance on selected plans
  • Strength and conditioning tailored to your running
  • Progression planned around your training and goals
  • Endurance work matched to your race
  • Return-to-run plans after injury
  • Running biomechanics advice for efficiency and to reduce load on injury-prone areas, such as cadence and form, where it's likely to help

What the research shows

Faster race times Strength training with heavier loads was found to improve middle and long-distance running performance, and combining different types of strength work may help most. Sports Medicine, 2024
Less energy at the same pace In most studies, strength work improved running economy by around 2–8%, a key factor in endurance performance. Sports Medicine, 2018
Fuelling that pays off on race day In 82% of studies, the right fuelling during exercise improved endurance performance, and the benefit grew the longer the event. Appl Physiol Nutr Metab, 2014
Check-ins that keep you on track Follow-up sessions and gradually progressed exercise are among the best-supported ways to help people stick to their physio programme. Systematic Reviews, 2024
Fewer injuries The right kind of training is shown to cut injuries, while some popular approaches make little difference. BJSM, 2014
Smarter build-up How you build up your running is linked to injury risk, so your progression is planned for you. BJSM, 2025

Running injuries

Back to running, and staying there

Whether it's pain that keeps coming back or an injury that's stopped you running, your physio uses exercise therapy to get you back running and lower the chance of it happening again.

Common running injuries we help with

  • Runner's knee
  • Achilles pain
  • Shin splints
  • Heel pain
  • Hip pain
  • Hamstring strains
  • IT band pain

Not a runner? We help with all kinds of muscle, joint and tendon problems too, from back, neck and shoulder pain to sports injuries and everyday aches.

If something needs a face-to-face assessment or a scan, your physio will tell you.

Why it works

Rehab doesn't stop when the pain doesA previous injury is the strongest known risk factor for a new one, so your programme keeps going after you're back running. J Sport Health Sci, 2021
Exercise therapy comes firstExercise therapy is recommended to treat common running injuries such as runner's knee. BJSM, 2018
  1. 1

    Settle and strengthen

Targeted exercises to calm symptoms and rebuild strength in the injured area, with clear advice on what you can keep doing in the meantime.

  2. 2

    Return to running

A planned, gradual return to running, with clear signs for when to progress and when to hold back.

  3. 3

    Stay running

Strength work and load management carry on once you're back, tackling what contributed to the injury so it's less likely to return.

Race preparation

Training and nutrition, planned together

Preparing for a race? Your physio plans your running, strength work, nutrition and running biomechanics as one programme, so each stage builds on the last and you reach the start line ready to perform at your best.

Built around you

No two runners are the same. Your plan is built around you: your previous injuries, how your body responds to training, your schedule, your goals and what you eat. Nothing is copied from a template.

Support at every stage

You're not doing it alone. Your physio is there through every stage, with regular check-ins to keep you on track, answer your questions and keep you motivated, so you get the most out of your training and race day.

  1. Stage 1 of 3

    Build the foundations

Strength and control work alongside steady running, with nutrition set up to support your training and recovery from the first week.

  2. Stage 2 of 3

    Get stronger

Heavier strength work and harder sessions as your running builds, biomechanics advice to help you run more efficiently, and nutrition adjusted to fuel your harder training days.

  3. Stage 3 of 3

    Peak and race

Your longest runs, then a taper, with fuelling for race week and race day that you've practised in training.

Your physio reviews your progress at every stage and adjusts your training and nutrition to how your body is responding. Nutrition guidance is included on selected plans.

How it works

  1. 01

    Questionnaire

Fill it in straight after signing up: two minutes on you and your reason for signing up.

  2. 02

    One-to-one video call

A 15-minute video call with your personal physio to go through your health history, check online care is safe and suitable for you, and set your baseline and goals. On the Performance plan, this is a 45-minute initial assessment.

  3. 03

    Your programme

Your physio writes your programme personally from your questionnaire and call, with clear guidance on each exercise, how much to do and how to progress.

  4. 04

    Check-ins

Short check-ins in the app on pain, effort and progress, and video calls on the top plan.

  5. 05

    Adjust

Your programme is progressed or modified based on how you're responding, what you tell us in your check-ins and calls, and your physiotherapist's clinical reasoning and assessment findings.

The app

Your programme, on your phone

Your programme is delivered through an app that's free to download and included in every plan, so everything lives in one place instead of in emails or PDFs.

  • Your exercise programmeEach exercise with sets, reps and instructions on how to do it, updated as your plan changes.
  • Check-insLog pain, effort and how sessions went, so your physio can see how you're responding.
  • Message your physioOn selected plans, message your physio directly with questions between check-ins. Replies come within one working day.

Knee felt a bit sore after Tuesday's run. Keep going?
Great work getting all three runs done this week, and thanks for flagging. Drop the run to 15 min next week and let me know how it feels.
